On the move

Thank you everyone for visiting this blog!  The Steins are currently in the midst of moving to a new, fabulous home in the city and I have just started an internship with MaxMara for the summer!  With all of the chaos going on, the blog will be on pause for just a little while. Tune in again soon, I have a ginormous list of amazing women to talk about.

Musicality

Roisin Murphy

"I can dance like a fairy and then stumble like a fool. That’s just the way it is." ~ on her imperfections

This Irish fashionista (pronounced ro-sheen) really knows how to dress it up.  Her career took off in 1995 when she was together with the band Moloko and went solo in 2005.  A well known artist in Europe, Roisin's career has yet to travel over the Atlantic.

But the drama that's been going on!  Roisin talked about Lady Gaga's style during magazine interviews, "She's copied my style. I met her about a year ago before she got really big and I had no clue that this was all going to happen."

Just a few fun pictures from what people had to say -

Yet no matter how this battle turns out, no one can deny her impeccable taste.

Rue Royale

Princess Diana

"People think that at the end of the day a man is the only answer. Actually, a fulfilling job is better for me."

No other royalty can compare to Princess Diana.  She's a woman I've always looked up to as a child; a true queen of humanitarianism who was sincerely interested in the suffering of people.  She raised money by selling her most beautiful gowns and gentleman at balls that would donate 7,000 pounds just to dance with her for a few minutes.  She was a patroness or president at over 100 charitable organizations and social institutions.  She would hold the hands of people that were sick, embrace them constantly, and console them.  She would raise awareness by walking through areas of land mines and in her later life devoted most of her time to raising awareness for AIDS.

A ballet dancer is infected with HIV. His death is just a question of time. Diana got to know him through her work with the AIDS-Help. She accompanied him on his difficult way with the illness, and asked him to phone her when he was reaching the end. For two days and three nights she held the hand of the AIDS sufferer, until he breathed his last breath. (From www.princess-diana.com)

A medical team did "everything possible" to save Princess Diana, but finally had to admit she was gone, a doctor said.

Her sense of fashion and changes in personal style entranced many people.  She had popularized the Lady Dior quilted bag.  Even after her tragic passing, she continues to be one of the top 100 influence people in fashion.

Sarah Loves...

Diane von Furstenberg

"The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself."

Diane von Furstenberg, formerly Princess Diane von Furstenberg of Germany, is known for the creation of the iconic wrap dress.  She married into the German House of Furstenberg, but divorced Prince Egan of Furstenberg in 1972 and lost her title as Princess.  Diane started her career with a $30,000 investment in the 1970's to design women's clothes.  The company today is a favorite of many women, not just for the wrap dress, but for the bright colors, prints and resort wear (I can't get enough of DvF!).  Incredibly, from 1972 to 1976, 5 million wrap dresses were sold. In the 1980s, Diane retreated from the Fashion Industry near bankruptcy, but re-emerged in 1997 stronger than ever.

Diane was the muse and inspiration of many artists in the day such as Andy Warhol, Helmut Newton, and Julian Opie.

Let's Play Politics

There's no better way to run around with a baby bump than like the First Lady of France

Carla Bruni debuted her baby bump in a chic Chanel white tweed dress covered by a black tweed jacket.

Inspired by....

Carey Mulligan

I have been obsessing over her!  She is amazing at what she does with no formal acting training during her debut in An Education.  I was especially in love with the color combination in this outfit.  Such an easy, chic look that anyone can wear.

beMUSE

Audrey Hepburn

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."

She continues to be an icon to many young women today, was the muse of Hubert de Givenchy and ranked the third greatest female screen legend.  Most known for her role in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Audrey Hepburn played the guitar and loved to dance.  Surprisingly, she never saw herself as an icon.

What made her such a muse?  Simple, clean lines and silhouettes that flatter her figure with large, bold accessories.

Hepburn dedicated most of her later life to UNICEF and humanitarian work.  She contributed in Africa, Asia and South America.  She was also a Goodwill UNICEF Ambassador and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  Hepburn mainly focused on helping impoverished children and was so passionate about it due to her war-time experiences.  She raised awareness about children in need and was given a special Academy Award called The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award posthumously.
